080: Passo de Larch

Rode the aptly dubbed Il Passo di Larch Friday in tribute to Sir Andy Hampsten and his legendary ride over the Gavia in something like 1988. He attacked. The elements attacked back covering everyone in snow and ice and he was the first over the top. He got second on the day, but secured his status as legendary when he went on to win the Giro that year and cement himself as the first American to win the race.

Bing.
Pretty Bad Ass if you ask me.

Which, apparently is why Slate Olson and Rapha organize a group ride each year to mark this momentous occasion.

So, with that it was up to the snow line. The ride ended up being something like 80-85 miles and the road did definitely head right up into the snow. With the warm summer here in Oregon the ride lasted something like 5 miles further than it did the year before. Who knows, maybe by next year we'll be able to get all the way to the top?
